Frequently asked questions

Which languages can I learn?

Chinese, Japanese, English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. Explanations can be written in any of these languages and also in Korean. The extension detects the language of each video automatically. If it gets it wrong, choose the video language in the panel.

Do I need an account?

No. The transcript, translations, pinyin, and playback controls work without signing in. A free account lets you look up words and save words, sentences, and grammar points. AI explanations are part of Premium. You can create an account here or in the extension.

Does it work on Netflix?

Netflix support is in beta. Open a show, then choose subtitles in the video's language from the Netflix player's subtitle menu; the transcript then loads by itself. If something does not work, please tell us which title you were watching.

How do I look up a word or listen line by line?

Click a word in the transcript to see its meaning. Click the time of a line to jump there. Press A, S, or D for the previous line, the same line again, or the next line, and Q to pause automatically after each line.

Where are my saved words?

Click the DracoLanguage icon in the browser toolbar. Your saved items are listed there, and you can export them as a CSV file, for example to import them into Anki. Saved words are also underlined in every transcript.

What does Premium include?

AI explanations of complete sentences and of any text you select in the transcript, with vocabulary, grammar, and usage notes, up to 1,500 explanations a month. Premium costs $4.49 a month or $24.99 a year. See Pricing.

The panel says I need to turn on subtitles.

For some videos YouTube only hands out the subtitles after they have been switched on once. Click the CC button in the YouTube player; the transcript then loads by itself.

The panel says the video has no subtitles.

DracoLanguage works with the subtitles the video provides, including YouTube's automatic ones. If a video has none, there is nothing to show. Try another video, or filter YouTube's search results by "Subtitles/CC".

An explanation looks wrong.

Explanations are generated by AI and can contain mistakes, especially for automatic subtitles with recognition errors. Please email us the video link, the time of the line, and what looks wrong. It helps us improve the explanations.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Use the link in the receipt email from Paddle, or write to us. Premium continues until the end of the period you already paid for.

How do I get a refund?

Within 14 days of a payment you can get a full refund. See our Refund Policy.

How do I delete my account?

Click the DracoLanguage icon in the browser toolbar and choose Delete account at the bottom of your account card. If you are asked to sign in again first, sign out, sign in, and try once more. You can also write to us and we will delete it for you. A running subscription is not cancelled automatically.
